The other currency

The U.S stocks surged yesterday as the Fed and Janet Yellen said they would continue the central bank’s policy of providing monetary stimulus to bolster the economy. This is music in the investors ears!

«What would cause the committee to consider a pause in tapering is a notable change in the outlook,» Janet Yellen said. Republicans don`t want to fight anymore, so he house voted to raise the government`s borrowing l limit. This will continue until March 2015.

Asian and European stocks is up today, as the investors cheered Janet Yellens stance. Gold is down today. USD have always had an interesting relationship with Gold. When gold is rising the dollar has declined in the long term, but that is not true, in the short term, so the relationship can be tenuous at best. Take a look at the charts, and you can see for yourself. You can see a strong negative correlation to a strong positive correlation and back again.

This relationship can be linked to the Bretton Woods System. International settlements were made in U.S dollars and the U.S goverment promised to redeem dollars at a fixed gold rate. Bretton Woods Systems was dissolved in 1971. When gold is discussed, talk of the U.S dollar usually ensues.

Gold and U.S dollars can be seen as a trading pair like EUR/USD or other currency pairs, but it is important to remember that gold and currencies are dynamic and have more than one simple input.

Gold is impacted by far more than just U.S dollar, inflation or war. Gold can be traded all around the world as a global commodity and it reflects global sentiment. Not only a sentiment of one economy or group of people.

It seems like a new bullish trend have started, but be careful and take a look at the gold, equity markets and the U.S dollars during the 2008 financial crises. Gold plummeted like the stock market, and the U.S dollar skyrocketed. This is just a reminder.

SolarCity up 449,4%

I wrote about Zynga (ZNGA) yesterday, among other social media websites. The funny thing is that Zynga was the most active stock on Nasdaq yesterday. A volume leader (80,081,587), and that is twice as much as Microsoft. Wow! Zynga plummeted -12,16%.

The gaming company recently made an official statement that Zynga is now working with BitPay and will accept the currency in some of its games. This innovative approach will allow you to pay with Bitcoins.

Gamers do not need any credit card or a PIN to be signed in to their site, and transfer funds electronically. With their new mobile games for Apple`s iOS platform, they try to differentiate themselves from their competitors like International Game Technology (IGT) and Electronic Arts (EA).

That was the big loser on Nasdaq yesterday, but who was the winner? Earlier, I wrote about the health-care bull. Yesterday`s winner on Nasdaq was Sarepta Therapeutics Inc (SRPT). This winner is up 40,14%.

Number three on the Nasdaq winner list yesterday was another health-care company. Prosenca Holding (RNA). The stock is up amazingly $24.37%. Not bad for only one trading day. Analysts are bullish on both health-care stocks mentioned in here.

Another winner yesterday was SolarCity (SCTY), which is up 12,12%. So far this year this stock is up 35,2%. Last 12 months, the stock is up 449,4%. SolarCity Corp is engaged in designing, sales, engineering, installation, monitoring, maintenance and financing of solar energy systems to residential and commercial customers, and sale of electricity generated by solar energy systems to customers.

2013 was the year for solar stocks. Solar ETF`s like Guggenheim Solar (TAN) and Market Vectors Solar Energy (KWT) is up 114% and 92%. First Solar (FSLR) is downgraded. Most of all because they have a different business model than SolarCity. We have seen an intense insider selling in SolarCity last 30 days.

You can imagine how this industry will look like in the future if (or shall I say when?) the oil price is declining. The oil price will probably peak out at around $150 a barrel, but in the long run it will decline and hit the bottom at around $10 to $20 a barrel. renewable Energy is the future!

Factores that moves the gold price

Gold has always been revered as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Gold reminds us of the Egyptian Pharaohs and the voyage of Columbus to the New World. Gold has also been used as currency and as a way to prop up the fiat money.

The U.S put the dollar on the gold and silver standard in 1792, and that is one of the most important moves to gold and silver-backed currency.

President Richard Nixon removed the gold standard in 1971 (179 years later). As you can understand; it had a huge impact of the gold-price around the globe. In 1980, the gold price went from $35 an ounce to a record high of $850 an ounce. That is above $2000 an ounce adjusted for inflation. On March 19, 2008, gold price hit a high of $1,022,40.

You can buy gold on these Gold Exchanges:

The futures contract for gold is traded at the

New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) through its Commodity Exchange (COMEX) division via open outcry.

It is also traded electronically through the Chicago Board of Trade (eCBOT),

India’s National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX),

Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX),

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and

Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM).

The gold supply will not be able to meet the demand in less than 45 years. Worldwide gold production will continue to underperform against worldwide demand.

The World Gold Council estimates that the total gold mined annually is about 2,500 metric tonnes. 3,500 metric tonnes of gold is used in the jewelry, investment and commercial industry. It is difficult to determine where the last 1,000-ton gold shortfall will come from.

It is widespread commercial use of gold as a coating on electrical connectors. They use it on video cables, audio, to computers, component cables and connectors.

India is the biggest consumer og gold worldwide, with an annual consumption estimated at 700 tons a year. India`s estimated gold demand at US$30 billion by 2015.

IMF (The International Monetary Fund) and WAG (Washington Agreement on Gold, have a very strict requirements in gold sales: less than 400 tons per year. The members can`t use gold to back or replace their currency.

The gold prices has been volatile with extreme pricing and the most extreme of any commodity on the market. Gold has cyclically come into and out of favor as an investment.

The demand for gold for use as electrical conductivity will historically continue a long time to come.

The big question is whether the gold will continue as a viable inflationary hedge? It remains to be seen…….

Virgin Galactic accepts Bitcoin

Sir Richard Branson is a cool guy. In 1972, he opened a chain of record stores named Virgin Records. He started his own record label and later on Virgin Megastores. Branson`s Virgin brand grew rapidly during the 1980`s and he expanded the Virgin Records music label.

Branson is the 4th richest citizen of the United Kingdom, and have 400 different companies. One of them is Virgin Galactic, and that is the space-flight branch of Sir Richard Branson`s empire.

The interesting thing about this company right now is that they is planning to use the virtual currency Bitcoin to be used for buying tickets to space. “All of our future astronauts are pioneers in their own right, and this is one more way to be forward-thinking,” Richard Branson said.

He compared innovations in flight to innovations in currency and speculated that “the days of carrying cash and coins could soon be over”.

Bitcoin has a growing support from investors including China. They belive the decentralised currency could hold long-term promise as an alternative form of payment. Virgin Galactic is the highest-profile company to endorse the currency. Bitcoin is traded on MT Gox exchange and so far this year the currency have skyrocketed!

The first bubble started in October 3rd, 2010. The BTC price was $0,06. Then the price crashed down to $0,01 and a massive selloff and buying frenzy started. The third major bitcoin bubble is occurring right now. Bitcoins

If money printing policy continues, you know where the value of the dollars is going. The more printed money into the market, the lower the value. Traditionally investors and money makers buy gold to protect themselves.

Gold prices is declining, so what is the safe heaven now? Maybe a new currency? What about Bitcoins? The price has skyrocketed in 2013, and Alan Greenspan say in an intervju with Bloomberg that this is a bubble.

Bitcoin is electronic money and payment network introduced in 2009 by “Satoshi nakamoto” (pseudonymous developer). This system is called a cryptocurrency because it uses cryptografhy to secure transactions.

Specialized computers use a proof-of-work system to prevent people from copying and spending the same bitcon multiple times. This is a known problem called double-spending.

A collection of Bitcoin addresses is known as a wallet. Thefts of bitcoins from web services and online wallet services have been covered in the media, prompting assertions that the safest way to store bitcoins is in a paper wallet generated by the owner on an uncompromised computer.

Bitcoins are getting more popular as a payment for legitimate products and services. Merchants have an incentive to accept the currency because transaction fees are lower than 2 to 3% typically imposed by credit processors. WordPress use bitcons. So does OkCupid, Reddit and the Chinese Internet giant Baidu.

Some people in Argentina use Bitcoins as an alternative to the official currency, which is stymied by inflation and strict capital controls. Some financial journalists have suggested that there was a link between higher Bitcoin usage in Spain and the 2012 – 2013 Cypriot financial crisis.

Professor John Quiggin of the University of Queensland has noted that since Bitcoin by design has no intrinsic value, it is perhaps the finest example of a pure bubble! but cautions that we have no way to predict when the value of bitcoins will return to zero.

Bitcoins association with criminal activities has historically hindered the currency from attaining widespread, mainstream use and has attracted the attention of financial regulators, legislative bodies, and law enforcement. Washington Post called it “the currency of choice for seedy online activities”. CNN called Bitcoin a “shady online currency”. You are hereby warned!
